DRC Congo; Rape; Child; Voice African Child; Sexual violence
The Democratic Republic of Congo has a long history of conflict , but its recent crises can be traced to the aftermath of the Rwanda Genocide in 1994. Violence continued into 2003 peace accords were signed between Uganda Rwanda and DRC. Even though these accords were officially signed, a proxy war continued until 2008. Against this backdrop of brutal war is an inhumane act of sexual violence against women as a weapon of war by rebel militia. The side effect to this brutal rape are children born.
Nothing prepares you for the children’s troubles in the DRC Congo. We were first Invited into DRC by Flame International who serve and teach on forgiveness in the region. Seeing the masses of unwanted children born out of rape, you can sense the cry for recognition identity and justice in their little hearts. The difference with the children in this region is stark. These children are unwanted, not recognized by government, family, and sometimes the mother. The stigma of being son/daughter of a militia rebel born out of rape sets them apart for rejection from birth. Sadly not all these children are welcomed or accepted by the mothers or indeed the extended family as well as the government. Most do not possess birth certificates and as a result cannot access government school education. So what do you say to a child rejected from conception? Where there is no Parental Responsibility, the child need as clear understanding of whose they are and herein comes a clear teaching of their identity in Christ Jesus as their father who died for them, who loves and accepts them truly.
VOAC are supporting the Anglican church and ASDIG as they feed 300 children per day to children who would otherwise have no meal at all. You are welcome to join us as we source more feeding for the children to have more than the one meal a day. After feeding the children go back to sleeping under card board boxes or in the bushes. Join us to build better shelter for the children.
Support us as we commence agricultural projects to increase feeding for more children
The school building is still underway as well as the toilets and clinic for children who would otherwise have no access to such basic facilities and rights.
The work in the DRC is enormous. Join us and support a child and create a better leader for tomorrow.
We are thankful to VOAC supporters who are funding teachers’ salary at the school run by the Anglican church. This way children get some literacy which they would otherwise not get at all. Please join us to fund more teachers!
